The California Coastal Commission has approved a request to replace 52 damaged cement floating docks with polystyrene foam and concrete docks in Marina Village Marina. This marina houses around 600 boats.
“Twenty-two main walks and 30 finger floats would be removed and replaced in-kind with floats consisting of expanded polystyrene foam encased by a concrete shell. There will be no increase in the number or size of dock floats and the existing configuration will remain unchanged,” commission staff stated in its report to commissioners. “The purpose of the project is to replace old and damaged floats to ensure that the anchorage is maintained in a safe and operable condition.”
Additionally, Marina Village Marina will have to submit a water quality plan to demonstrate that the new docks won’t harm the surrounding area.
